Janet de La Roche was one of the last Bohemians. Janet was an artist & a Flamenco dancer. She was born in Holywood, California and joined the Marines during WWII to break away from home. After the war, using the GI Bill, she went to every art school in LA. At Jepson Institute, she met Victor DiGesu, who she later married. In 1950, they purchased a lot in Monterey, California and started construction on the house which was to be their home. Throughout the mid '50's, Janet and Victor traveled and studied painting in Europe. Upon returning to the US, they became prominent members of the Peninsula art community. Victor DiGesu died in 1988 and Janet passed away in 2000.
